Liquid Green - The 5-Day Detox Feast

by Beryn Daniel

FILED IN: Health and Food · Issue 26 · Recipes · Vegetarianism

Here’s the simple and effective green juice-liquid feast that I started my year off with.
Because of the liquidized soups it is actually quite an easy cleanse as it is substantial and filling.

Daily Summary

1 x ¼ Glass water with Zeolytes
1 litre bottle of water with Msm and Himalayan rock salt
1 litre of green vegetable juice
1 shot of wheatgrass or sunflower sprout juice
Stay away from all sweet fruits during the detox
Use Grapefruits and lemons for mild sweetness
1 – 2tsp Prime Directive Wholefood Probiotic Green Supplement
Liquid lunch of raw blended soups with medicinal mushrooms
Gojis to snack on if starving, or infused in your water with ½ a vanilla pod
4 x Enzyme capsules, 2 with lunch & 2 before bed
12 x Biowormwood anti-parasite capsules, 4 caps 3 x a day
Detox bath with Himalayan Rock salt or Epsom salts
All these items excluding the fresh fruit and vegetables are provided in a Basic Detox Starter Kit available from Soaring Free Superfoods. Call 021 7947793 or email info@superfoods.co.za

5-day Detox Programme

Prepare yourself a few days before the program by drinking lots of water,
cutting out all refined & processed foods and eating minimalistically.
Use fresh Spring water throughout the detox if you can.
Use organic produce where possible.

7am (or upon waking):
Pour a ¼ glass of water and add 1 tsp of Zeolytes powder and drink
Prepare 1 litre of water with a slice of lemon, pinch of Himalayan rock salt and 2tsp MSM
Drink a glass now and sip on the rest throughout the morning.

Prepare and wash the following fresh greens and make a green vegetable juice consisting of: (these 6 ingredients serve as the base or standard drink)
1x grapefruit
2x small cucumber
5x stalks of celery
½ lemon
6x large spinach leaves
1 inch piece of ginger
Try and find or grow as many of these ingredients as you can and add them:
Dark green leaves
Large handful of sunflower greens
½x fennel bulb
1x handful of parsley
5 or 6 stalks of sorrel
Stinging Nettle

Add apple only if you must. The less sweet fruit the better, this serves to starve out the yeast, fungus and bad bacteria which feed on sugar.
An excellent addition if you can find it is a thick wedge of aloe ferox, take the green skin off and juice the rest.
This should make approx 500ml which must be diluted with another 500ml of water to get you to 1 litre or maybe even 1 ½ litres of green veg juice.

Drink 1 or 2 large glasses of green vegetable juice. Remember to dilute with at least half water. “Chew” or swirl the juice around in your mouth, before swallowing.

Take 4x Bio wormwood antiparasite capsules

9am - 12noon:

Mix Vegetable juice or diluted grapefruit juice with Prime Directive Wholefood
Probiotic Green Supplement
Have a shot of wheatgrass if you can.

Have a liquid lunch of Raw Soup or more vegetable juice.
Medicinal mushrooms boost the immune system so add 1-2 tsp to either soup recipe below.
Eat it slowly.

A good raw Green soup recipe:

1-2 avocados
1-2 cucumbers
1 jalapeno pepper
1/2 onion
juice of 1/2 lemon
1-2 cups Water
1 clove garlic
1 Tbs fresh coriander
1 Tbs fresh parsley
1 Carrot
Braggs liquid aminos
Himalayan rock salt
1 tsp medicinal mushrooms

Blend everything together in a Blender.
Add more water depending on desired thickness

Red Pepper and Tomoto Soup :

5 tomatoes
2 red peppers
1/4 red onion
1 clove garlic
handful of fresh basil leaves
handful of cashews or pinenuts
Himalayan rock salt (or to taste)
1/2 cup water
Half a chillie (optional)
1 tsp medicinal mushrooms

Blend everything together in a Blender.
Add more water depending on desired thickness.
Take 2x enzyme capsules and 4x Bio wormwood antiparasite capsules with lunch

2pm – 6pm:

Enjoy more water or green juice in the afternoon
Snack on Goji Berries if you are hungry or put a handful of Goji Berries with
half a vanilla pod in your drinking water.

Soup or juiced greens.

7pm onwards:
Water with lemon juice
Take 4x Bio wormwood antiparasite capsules
Have a hot bath with a handful of Himalayan rock salt or Epsom salts.
Read a good book and Relax
Take 2x enzyme capsules just before bed.

10-Day version

To turn this into a slightly longer but slower 10- Day detox do the following:

Day 1 and 2 - follow above but have a light salad or some lightly steamed brocolli,
avocado and tomato with olive oil and rock salt for lunch.
Day 3 and 4 - follow above doing the soups for lunch and dinner
Day 5 and 6 - follow above with green juices only (no blended foods, only water and juice)
Day 7 - follow above but add back in the blended soups
Day 8 and 9 - follow above and add back in a light salad or lightly steamed brocolli, avo and tomato with olive oil and rock salt for lunch again.
Day 10 - start including a wider variety of raw and living foods, olives, nuts and seeds, sprouted foods and salads. If you can, keep drinking approx 1/2 litre to 1 litre of vegetable juice a day – which forms part of any fantastic maintenance diet.

A few reminders:

You may or may not experience various different detox symptoms.
Some people just feel light, full of energy and sparkly eyed from the start, others don’t.
Detox symptoms can include nausea, weakness, lightheadedness, rashes,
smelly breath, furry tongue, lethargy, fatigue or flu-like symptoms.
If you experience any of these whilst undertaking a cleanse – drink lots of extra water to help flush these circulating toxins from your system.
If the detox is too strong and you wish to slow it down add avocados or olive oils into your daily routine. If you add an avo into your blended soups on the first few days, the transtition into the juicing days should be much easier.
If you’re really feeling listless a spoonful of coconut oil can also boost energy levels, if you need it.

Go ahead and have the best detox ever.
